Indestructible STP8000 proves its mettle

14th October 2015

14 October 2015 - The STP8000 lives up to its rugged reputation after being pulled from a fire in full working order.

The time: 23.45, 30th July 2015
The place: San Rafael, province of Mendoza, Argentina

Just before midnight, the Delegación Bomberos Zona Sur San Rafael [Southern San Rafael Fire Brigade] is alerted to a brush fire along Ruta Nacional 146. Within minutes, a fire tender is dispatched and team are speeding along the highway, ready to fight the blaze.

Upon arrival, it becomes obvious that the fire is fierce and extensive. As the intrepid team begin to tackle the inferno, Firefighter Marco Aguilera's STP8000 radio falls into the flames, which are too ferocious to permit its retrieval.

It's only later, when the flames have died down, that Firefighter Aguilera is able to reclaim the radio … and is astonished to find that, despite being in a piteous state - with antenna, volume button and casing severely burned - the radio is still fully functional.

He uses the radio to call control and confirm its retrieval.

"I've never seen a radio in such a state, let alone one that still worked" said Gustavo Boregio, of Intema Communicaciones - Sepura's sales partner in Argentina and part of the Authorized Service Centre team that repaired the radio.

"Amazingly, all the internal electrics were OK. Everything else was replaced - the casing, battery, antenna, keypad, knob and external connectors. The radio is now back with Firefighter Aguilera and functioning perfectly."
