Sepura - First in TETRA

Case Studies

Ministry of Public Security, China

These tests demonstrate compatibility of Sepura radios with all 350-370 MHz frequency infrastructure vendors systems trialled in China to date. These trials show that the 350 MHz products and networks are available, mature and ready to be widely deployed and supported by multiple suppliers. Sepura enjoys a leading position in the TETRA world market and continues showing leadership in China. Sepura is strongly committed to China and to providing technical customer support locally.

Mr. Ma Xiao Dong, Chief Engineer Information and Communication, Ministry of Public Security, China

Etelm, France

Successful audio and data transmission on TETRA was achieved at 574.8 Km/h! This is indeed an astonishing and remarkable achievement for all those who made these tests happen. At such a high speed it is fundamental that the handover between the TETRA base stations is uninterrupted. The Sepura SRM3500 performed flawlessly and enabled continuous communications throughout the speed run. On the VT150 running at this fantastic speed audio quality must be exceptionally clean and intelligible. Among all the TETRA radios deployed for the tests, Sepura SRM3500 delivered a very high level of performance in terms of continuity of communications, speech clarity and reliability.

Mr Pierre Minot, President, Etelm, Etelm

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), South Korea

We were particularly impressed with Sepura’s commercial and technical post-sales support. Sepura answered all our queries in record time making us forget that they were on the other side of the Atlantic! In addition, such high levels of support enabled the fast rollout of the system, which allowed us to meet our customer’s tight deadlines. This is the first digital trunked system to be installed in Peru in six years. The fast turnaround time of approximately one month from order to shipment was a great way to close 2006!"

Mendoza Police, Argentina

Versatile, robust and designed for the harshest of public safety environments, Sepura TETRA radios provided the ideal solution for Mendoza Police. We are aware that other countries in South America are monitoring progress of this initiative, and we believe this will lead to greater take-up of TETRA technologies in South American countries for the future.

TetraStar, Denmark

TETRA technology ensured the smooth running of Landsstaevne 2006. Every evening for five days the national Danish TV transmitted for over 1 and half hours from the event. Everyone I have spoken to is positively impressed with Sepura radios; police, first aid and rescue services were extremely impressed with the radios' eyes-free usability and sound quality.
We registered circa 10,000 group calls during the event and had no faults at all. The busiest hours registered approximately 200 group calls per hour. First aid was the major user with over 1,000 calls. The first aid hospital counted over 250 calls.

Jørgen Brodersen, Managing Director, TetraStar, Denmark

Staffordshire Police, UK

We are using approximately 3000 Sepura radios and have been in contact with the company for several years.
Our radios include both the 2000 and 3000 series of Sepura products, many with integrated GPS. The radios perform well in a real world environment. Our users love them - we know this because we do not get any complaints: which is high praise indeed from Police officers! One of our motorway patrol officers, with over 30 years of experience, described them as 'the best bit of kit' he has ever had.

The radios are so configurable, any function can be put on virtually any soft key - the folders system for the talkgroups is totally flexible. The radios are very robust during programming, if a lead is pulled out by mistake and the radio powers off; users can just start again from where they left off. The software is logical and the 'Help' system is wonderful - by pressing help from any point it takes users directly to the part of the help text needed.

On every level we have found that Sepura and its products have met or exceeded our expectations. In addition, Sepura is able to listen and react quickly to new requirements.

Sgt Alex Rowlands, Radio Services Team , Staffordshire Police, UK

As well as providing much improved coverage, the Sepura handsets were an overwhelming winner among staff when we looked at the options. The handsets' functionality is excellent. The crews are particularly pleased with the way that they can call for emergency assistance with the press of a single button. This will greatly improve crew safety, and through the GPS functionality enable the location of individual crew members to be rapidly identified should they need to summon urgent assistance.

We ran a comprehensive procurement process that included extensive and demanding user and technical evaluation. It was very important to North Yorkshire Police that we identified a product that would meet our needs and support our aim of becoming the leading police service in the UK. Our staff continue to meet extremely challenging objectives and we wanted to provide them with equipment to assist them in delivering the best service possible to the people of North Yorkshire and the City of York, now and in the future. Key factors in North Yorkshire Police's decision to procure the SRP3000 were the proven GPS performance, the superb audio quality and Sepura's consistently high level of support throughout the evaluation process. We are looking forward to continuing our current excellent relationship with Sepura and working with them to develop the SRP3000 to its full potential.

Essex Police, UK

We have been using Sepura TETRA radio terminals for almost a year now, and our officers are extremely happy with their performance. In particular we are impressed with the clarity of the audio, and the additional TETRA features.
One of the most valuable benefits is the utility of having point to point telephony, text and status messaging, as well as the important emergency button, available in just one handset.
Furthermore, the terminal is highly portable and very easy to use. A radio terminal that is fit for purpose is vital for policing: we were looking for a TETRA terminal without gimmicks and the Sepura handportable does the job well!
We are impressed with Sepura as a company because they have kept pace with the development of Airwave, quickly adopting new features whenever these are brought in.

Chief Inspector Keith Beechener, Essex Police

Slovenia Police, Slovenia

We chose Sepura because the company meets all the requirements set by the EU tender specifications, from manufacturing quality to interoperability and proven financial stability. Sepura terminals provide excellent performance in difficult terrain and hostile environments. In addition, the level of support that Sepura and 3Tech have provided is also highly impressive; they have shown ongoing commitment and dedication to the provision of solutions to meet our needs.

Igor Bogataj, Head of Radio Communications Division, Slovenia Police

South Wales Police, UK

We have been using Sepura for over a year now and have two divisions live at the moment, deploying across the force throughout this year. We originally invited members of the South Wales Police to evaluate all the technology available to forces at that time and Sepura was the unanimous choice. That decision was made on handset size, ease of use and functionality, although people have been so taken with the improvement in voice and signal quality that they don't notice all the other bells and whistles.
We have over 4000 units for radio communication that are also used as a discrete radio for operations where officers have to wear specialist equipment.
The support from Sepura has been very good. We know that there is always someone at the end of the phone to speak to who understands our needs and can deal with problems, should any arise.

PC Ian Darlington, Airwave Implementation Team, South Wales Police

Cambridgeshire Constabulary, UK

Cambridgeshire Constabulary has been operationally live using the SRP2000 as the primary means of radio communication for 16 months now. Our users are pleased with the proven performance of the terminal and its functions, in particular with Point-to-Point. We have found that Sepura provides excellent customer technical help and support and are very pleased to continue our working relationship with them. The force has recently taken delivery of a number of SRM2000 mobiles for use by the CCTV centres and the users have been very satisfied with their clarity of audio and ease of use.

Hertfordshire Constabulary, UK

Hertfordshire Constabulary are using over 2,500 Sepura SRP2000 units. These terminals have proved themselves to be reliable and robust in all areas of policing. This, backed up with excellent technical and product support from Sepura, has reinforced our decision to choose this product.

PC Phil Douglas, Project Officer, Organisational Intelligence and Development Department, Hertfordshire Constabulary

Leicestershire Constabulary, UK

The performance of the SRP2000 is remarkable. The rugged, compact nature, functionality and the audio quality are well above our expectations. We are pleased to be the first UK police force to use the SRP2000 under operational conditions. We are utilising many of the 800 talk groups available and this is giving us much greater operational flexibility.

Gary Lewis, Airwave Project , Leicestershire Constabulary

Norwegian Army Signals Division, Norway

The SRP2000's human interface has proved easy for our soldiers to master; the GSM-style "look and feel" of the handset, together with its easy-to-follow menu structure, has made it accessible for users, something that is essential in active operations.
In addition, the device meets infrastructure device-security requirements and offers us full interoperability with the systems used by other alliance nations. We used the SRP2000 in recent survival-skills exercises hosted in Norway in which 15 nations participated, and we received only positive feedback.

Captain Odd Erik Kallokken, Signals Division, Norwegian Army

City of London Police, UK

We have in excess of 900 users regularly using SRP2000s in support of operations, overt and covert. Feedback from users is overwhelmingly positive. There is no doubt, that had we chosen any other supplier, we would not have had such a simple and straightforward delivery of the working product.

Central Post Ambulance Transport Amsterdam (CPA), Netherlands

We left the choice of TETRA terminals to the users themselves, the ambulance personnel. In the decision making process the ambulance personnel were interested in the available functions and user friendliness of the Sepura terminals. For them the small size and lightweight of the SRP2000 were the decisive factors.

Richard Janssen, Project Co-ordinator, CPA (Central Post Ambulance Transport - Amsterdam)

Bedfordshire Police, UK

Sepura stands head and shoulders above all of the other companies that we have dealt with in bringing the Airwave service into Bedfordshire Police service. They are responsive, have a positive attitude, always willing to help and are always available. Also the Sepura training package is the most informative and useful of all the training that we have received.

Bob Fletcher and Richard Baddeley, Airwave Team, Bedfordshire Police

Lancashire Fire and Rescue, UK

Sepura was the only supplier that was able to supply a lightweight handportable. The only other suppliers' handportable units were still on the heavy and bulky generation one equipment. Ease of operation was also a major factor in the selection of Sepura with the method of operation of the competing handportable regarded as clumsy in comparison.

Ian Taylor, Communications Officer, Lancashire Fire and Rescue, UK

West Midlands Police, UK

Choosing the best terminals for West Midlands Police proved to be an easy decision after a detailed analysis of the products available. The Sepura SRP2000 not only is a proven product, but has the operational features that we need. In addition, the support provided by Sepura during the evaluation has been far more than we had expected and, more importantly, indicative of the level of customer support that Sepura provides to its existing customers. This is most reassuring.

Chief Superintendent Rick Abbotts, West Midlands Police

KMar (Koninklijke Marechaussee), Netherlands
